For my table, I'll probably do 2024 if it exists but if it doesn't then I may allow a 2014 version.

Character forward and backward compatibility is NOT the same as backward and forward compatibility. People who have been playing 5e for up to a decade will often not want to learn what feels a bit like a brand new system.* If they are forced, then why not switch to another RPG. This will turn into a new coke, old coke situations. And my hypothesis is that we will end back with classic coke (5e) and new coke (2024) will be marginalized or simply stopped. *and one where player characters are OP.

For my home game we switched to pf2 and don't plan on coming back. For my work games I'll switch when I can get the new books for the office and not until then. So sticking 2014 till probably summer 2025.

Anything not included in 2024 yet still "5e" as in published by WOTC since 2014 is fair game, whatever Crawford, etc. say. Tempest Cleric, Artificer, Mastermind, and the others didn't die, they just didn't get massaged.

Would it make sense to give divine smite? Cantrip scaling instead of a leveled spell and still haven't be a bonus action once per turn.

Don't ever apologize for stuff like this. This video is representative of how life typically is, with emergencies or other obligations that come up that can disrupt normal plans. What am I doing as a DM? I’ve decided to use Tales of the Valiant as my 5E core. If 2014 5E is required for player options I’ve done the ToV conversion as per its guidelines. I suspect I’d do the same for 2024 player options. But we will be using ToV as our base for the foreseeable future.

Great video. This is exactly what I've been wondering about. Also do you know if they are only selling 2024e through DnDBeyond? I can't see it on any other retailer. I'll ask my DM what he's going to do. We use Roll20 but I think one of the players uses DnDBeyond. Will they force the digital copies to 2024e automatically?

It's funny, Star Wars 5e uses grouping by attributes for skills, and I went out of my way to find a 5e sheet that does the same. So I am all in on that change because I think it makes it easier. Even for new players, but I guess mileage may vary. But I agree with big number in the big box lol

I intend to do a hybrid group for my active table that I'm dming. I know that the group that I'm in as a player intends to remain a complete 2014 group because, despite me offering content sharing of the newest books with the DM, the DM has zero interest in the newest ruleset. Which, all the power to them on that decision, I just disagree. lol

We need to get you enough subs so you can quit your day job. Until then take as much time as you need.

What am I gonna do? That's a great question.... I hate the way they're doing races/species and backgrounds, so I won't be using those. I do like what they're doing to the classes, mostly; and I like some of the spell changes. So I'll have to read the stupid new PH when it comes out and make my ruling from that. Frankly, this is going to depend A LOT on how this new version translates in D&D Beyond. I use it for all my campaign functions and keeping track of magic, character sheets, encounters, maps, etc. If portions of 2024 can be used on DND Beyond, then I'll probably use new classes and new spells. If I can't cherry-pick what I want, then I won't. And obviously, if I hate the new stupid PH, then I won't buy any new product... that goes without saying. I've been buying everything WotC gave us for decades, but based on this new-version not-new-version of D&D, I'm pretty sure they've lost me for good. Unless the stupid new PH somehow rocks my world. Then, we'll see.

I was thinking of this for several TTRPG commentators: pace yourself! There's a long time between today and the release of the monster manual. Take some time out you'll burn yourself out. Your day job is adding to the pressure. Don't worry, we'll survive. We want you to survive as well. ✌️

I was wondering where your live feed reaction video was at for the rogue. Real-life job does take priority. The biggest reason I enjoy your videos is how balanced your views are on whatever you are doing. Today was the rogue and tomorrow (Tuesday) is the warlock. I caught the rogue during the live feed but won't catch the warlock because I'll be at work. IF I'm lucky, I can catch it during lunch but even that is doubtful. I don't play rogues so be curious what your take will be on the changes.
